English as a Second Language Classes help our neighbors from other countries adapt to and find jobs within the Houston area. At WHAM, we invite all persons interested in learning the English language to enroll in our ESL classes.
The goal of the ESL program is to help non-native speakers achieve English proficiency. The program prepares students by teaching them different areas of academic English as well as the everyday communication skills needed to find a job. Classes are taught at different levels of learning, including Beginning Literacy, Beginning ESL and more advanced sections.
ESL students have come to WHAM from all around the world, including: Vietnam, Japan, China, Iraq, Russia, Iran, El Salvador, and Mexico. The class size ranges from 10 to 18 students.
Advanced ESL classes are held on Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 2400 Wilcrest Dr. Classes for those with limited English skills are held every Friday; from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. also at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church.
ESL classes are also held at West Houston Assistance Ministries, located at 10501 Meadowglen Ln. Classes are held on Wednesdays, between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
