Current Volunteer Needs

Individual Administration/CARE Ministry Openings:

  • Computer Repair – Provides lights repair and maintenance on donated computer components and equipment. HOURS: Flexible, Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • Data Entry – Creates and updates client information in computer database. Must have attention to details and strong computer skills. HOURS: Flexible, Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • ESL Instructors/Assistants – Teach and coach non-English speakers with learning conversational styles of speaking. Patience and ability to follow curriculum a must. Teaching experience beneficial. HOURS: To be determined. 
  • Food Pantry Collection Driver – Picks up food collections at assigned drop locations. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, pass a background check and be punctual. HOURS: Flexible, Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Food Pantry – Sorts and process food donations for clients. Must be able to lift 15 lbs and stand for longer than 30 minutes at a time. HOURS: Flexible, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Interviewer – Interview clients and ensure appropriate intake forms are completed.  Assess client needs and refer clients to other resources that may assist them.  Consult with manager to determine amount of financial assistance allocated for the day.  Will dispense food and Second Blessing vouchers as needed.  Assist clients in goal setting when appropriate and keep accurate records in client files. Will verify information and act as an advocate for clients when calling outside parties.  Will respect the dignity of W.H.A.M. clients at all times according to established guidelines.            
  • Job Search Facilitator – Assists job seekers in writing resumes and cover letter, aids in internet searches and solicits job leads over the telephone (list of businesses provided). Must be patient and possess good communication and listening skills. Computer skills a plus.  HOURS: Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Photographer – Takes action photos of WHAM events and volunteers to use for media and public relations. Eye for great photo opportunities a plus. HOURS: Flexible per event, Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Receptionist – Screen phone calls and determine if callers are in zip code service area. Will suggest appropriate community resources to clients; maintain filing system, pull client files, organize files and copy documents when needed. Will oversee the waiting room, coordinate and set-up appointments, sign in clients, interact and assign interviewers to clients and label and prepare files for new clients.
  • Research/Letter Writer – Assist CEO in researching contact information on donor prospects from list given and create letters to solicit/introduce WHAM and write cards as follow-ups throughout year.  Will maintain a list of prospective contacts.  Also researches grant foundations on possibilities for funds for basic needs and operating.  Obtaining data on contacts, their requirements and if they fit our needs            
  • Archive Assistance – Organizes and catalogues historical items, including pictures, news clippings, and reports, in meaningful and useful ways. Attention to detail and ability to organize files/materials a plus. HOURS: Flexible, can even be done off site.

Individual Second Blessing Store Openings:

  • Cashier – Assist Second Blessing Store shoppers with a positive, friendly attitude. Prior retail and basic math skills a must. HOURS: Flexible shifts ranging from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
  • Drivers– The person in this position will pick up donated items several times a week. Potential volunteers would go through a driver license check and must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. HOURS: Flexible shifts ranging from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
  • Testers—Patient volunteer needed to test out donated items before they can be placed on the store shelves. HOURS: Flexible shifts ranging from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
  • Pricers – Sorts, organizes and prices donated items for Second Blessing Store. Strong eye for cost, worth and value a plus. HOURS: Flexible shifts ranging from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
  • Sorters – 20-30 people needed to sort clothing and shoe donations for Second Blessing Store.  Attention to detail a plus. HOURS: Flexible shifts ranging from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
  • Small Electronic Appliance Repair – Provides light repair on donated small electronic appliances and devices. HOURS: Flexible shifts ranging from 2 – 4 hours available, Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  • Unloaders—Unload donations from vehicles. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Flexible shifts ranging from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
  • Organizers—Organize shelves including housewares, clothing racks and book shelves on store floor. Flexible shifts ranging from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
  • Boutique Area Workers—Volunteers needed to oversee high end sales items. Must have excellent customer service skills. Flexible shifts ranging from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
  • Voucher Assistants—Assist WHAM clients with clothing vouchers and purchases. Must have excellent customer service skills. Flexible shifts ranging from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Group Volunteer Openings:

  • Groups are encouraged to sign up to volunteer. Group volunteering may include several of the openings listed above, but may also be tailored to fit the needs, interest and experience of your group. Contact WHAM’s Volunteer Coordinator, Ella Clark, for more details.
